"WORKING WITH ALPINE FUNGI"

As president I am delighted to invite mycologists worldwide to the 10th International Symposium on Arctic and Alpine Mycology, which will be held in Kanazawa, Mt Hakusan and Sugadaira (Japan). Mt. Hakusan was chosen as the Foray site due to its 20 year-investigation by members of the Ishikawa Mycological Association under the control of the Ministry of Environment. Also, it has the longest history of investigation of the phytoflora in Japanese alpine mountains. As alpine flowers in Hakusan are believed to have migrated to Japan from circumpolar areas in the final glacial period, fungi are also suggested to have migrated from the areas. However, little is known about fungi in Japanese alpine mountains, so far. We believe this is the best opportunity to provide new insights into arctic and alpine mycology.
